Hall of Fame

Post by theseagullbus on Fri Jan 15, 2010 7:19 am

Just enquiring about thoughts for the Hall/Walk of Fame.Needs to be an achievable figure and needs to allow everyone to have a say/vote.I'm already working with Lee on finding a suitable method, but any other input would be welcome. The photos are currently budgeting around the £80 each mark but I still need to resource the photos thru Andrew Varley/whoever.

Proposal thus:
Full photo of 1975 ECF team(effectively Revie squad)
Photo of Don Revie (manager)- a 'must have' on any such project as is (possibly) John Charles

Voting thus:
pre-war:take your pick from the following:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Leeds_United_A.F.C._players#Notable_players
I'm not sure who to include but we could have say a dozen to vote on,with the top four chosen.

1945-1960-'The early years' 12 again with the top four being selected

1960-1965(our first FA Cup final appearance) 'Revie arrives'-This would have a 'ceiling' of a certain number of appearances to qualify,so wouldnt include the youngsters in the Revie side-four again

1965-1975-'The Glory Years'-say twenty to vote on with the top four being selected

1975-1982-'Post Revie'- Twenty again with four

1982-1988-'Rebuilding in the Eighties'-to include div 2 and the start of Wilko's reign(20/4)

1988-96-'Wilko and out'-20 with four winners(20/4)

1996-2002-'Road to Valencia'-encompassing G Graham's time to ECSF v Valencia(20/4)

2002-2010-'Downs and ups'-to date(20/4)

That gives 36 players which may be too much/not enough.Could do top three which would bring it down with an option to do four.See what you think and rip it apart/add your own suggestions/canvas etc and let me know.

Thanks

Mark

Being as I possibly am the only LUST memeber with much personal knowledge of Pre War (via my Dad) and immediate Post War (I was there!!) LUFC players would you require my input into these sections of our history?

Mark

I have done the 12 for Pre War. It is easy to select say 15 but hard to get down to 12 especially never seen them play (despite what some might think Laughing ). I have developed a format of showing for each selection Games played and Goals scored as well as a short narrative to aid voting. I have included a player from Leeds City, if you want it LUFC only then I can easily swap another guy in. How do you want me to get them to you? At the moment they are on Word.

Stick to 15 as its only for voting purposes anyway, and I'd stick to LU and avoid City to keep it simple plus we dont want some purist saying we should have included City!

Should be able to email it on either blackpool_plumber@btinternet.com or blackpool_whites@msn.com

Hi everyone-just to update you on the HOF to date.

I've received a reply from Andrew Varley who's supplying the photos at a reasonable cost, but I've opted for Don Revie as that was one that wasnt to voted on.I've asked for two-one A2 and one A3-to see which looks better in an A2 frame. There'll be a pen picture (over to you JJ!) and I'll incorporate the new Trust logo (already supplied by Lee)

The words 'Hall of Fame' will be prominent as will the indivual sponsors, but not so that it detracts from the overall quality of the finished article.

I hope to have it set up for next week so if anyone wants to hold an informal meeting, then thats good with me.Unfortunately the fixtures have given us a Monday night game v Millwall, but I'd hope to have it prepared long before then

Cheers gents!

Not sure now because of the time frame-AV has been asked to select two-one A3 and one A2,so I can have them for Saturday and I've posted the money off so theres no delay. If youre about v Brentford then give me a call and I'll show you the photos, but like I said I can always bring them over during the week.
Same applies to anyone else-if youre about on Saturday then I'll be in the Pavilion, otherwise pm me for contact details.

If we're succesful with the venture then we'll have to meet to select photos for the players concerned, which may require a meet with AV in order to select the right ones.

There'll be lots of organising to do in a short space of time but I'll do my best to keep everyone in the loop

Thanks for the update. Things appear to have gone quite a long way already on this initiative so congratulations on the success so far and the time and effort that you must have put in to get it this far.

I'm casting my mind back to the AGM and I think there was going to be a fuller proposal on this project. Has this proposal been created and in particular how is this project being funded and how will it be financed in the future ? Is a detailed proposal going to be put to the board ?

The idea is for individuals and groups to sponsor the photos as they go,who's details will be included on each one. This then becomes a self financing project and something done by the fans off their own backs.

The photos have been produced by Andrew Varley at a cost which I wont disclose on here, but my RMC will be sponsoring the first one-although of course if the club reject the idea then we'll have wasted the money.(we'll use them as raffle prizes next LOR so all will not be lost!)

I'll have a budget cost ready for the next meeting, but if necessary I might have a profile printed so the photo is effectively mounted within the frame. This will include the words 'LUST Hall of Fame',the players name and pen picture and of course the new Trust logo-plus the sponsors name as already stated.

Any further details then please either pm or email me and I'll happily divulge further information.

Hi Mark - are you going to the next board meeting? If so, it would be great if you could give us an update

Yup I'll be there and I've said as much to both Billy and Lee.

I'm working as fast as I can so the club have the chance of incorporating this with a gala dinner,to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the ECF.JJ has sent his contribution through and its being prepared ready for the photos arriving.

Time is of the essence I reckon.
